Pretty but Pointless
This is my wife’s deodorant. The first time I saw it I was struck by the design of the package. The form and graphics are very clean and well executed- especially so given that this is a discount brand. The problem is that the designers forgot the user when they conceived this design. The way the top seamlessly blends into the body of the container makes it almost impossible to open.
After watching Anna Kate struggle with it for a couple of weeks (and actually having to help open it when she couldn’t on several occasions), I finally got fed up and fixed the problem. A few strategically placed shallow cuts with the die grinder and the user once again reigns supreme!
In my opinion, it is the duty of the Industrial Designer to ensure this sort of thing doesn’t happen. I wonder what happened here?
