quick update

I have been inundated with schoolwork lately but I have only a little more than 2 weeks of college left before I am DONE! Things are going well with my classes this summer. I made an A in my Concepts of Science class and a B in Intro to Ethics. I was more thankful for that B than any A I have ever made :-) World Lit II and Geography are going well and I’m enjoying the material in both classes.

I have had to park my bike for a little while due to some shoulder discomfort. Tugging on the bars to get all the mass of my single speed commuter bike started and over the few hills here in Auburn seems to be aggravating an old injury. After a couple of weeks of rest, I’m planning on giving the Klein another shot next week since it still has a few gears to choose from so I don’t have to work quite as hard.

Now that the end of my college adventure is growing near I’m starting to reflect back on the last 18 months. It’s been quite a wild ride! It seems almost impossible that a year ago we were still living in our great big house in Nashville. Now, we are starting to wonder what the next phase of our life will bring. Right now I am exploring job opportunities all over the US. Our plan is to stay put here in Auburn until I figure out where we’ll be headed next.

Stay tuned!

PS- My wife, Anna Kate, has decided to follow my lead with a blog of her own. She’s much funnier than I am so her posts are much more interesting to read than mine. Be sure to check it out! www.annakatedonovan.com

Congratulations — you’re on the home stretch!

If you’re like me, you’ll be going 100mph until the very end, then suddenly stop. Be forewarned, the sudden downshift in speed can be disorienting for a few days (weeks). But what a rush.

Robert, super congrats on making the upcoming graduation. You’ve done something very few would even be willing to do, which is go back and finish a degree after the long hiatus…and all with a wife and 3 girls. Dude, you’re my hero! Hey, I know the job search is tough (thank you crappy market) and can be a bit disheartening, but I do think you should be very proud of your recent accomplishment. You will finally have that degree…Bachelors of Industrial Design. Woohoo! I know life has a funny way of giving you twists and turns (mine has as well), but you and the family are now getting ready to shift gears into something new. I’m dealing with a bit of that unknown myself, and it’s hard to consider what the next job will be…what city will be our new home…and how will this affect the kid(s) as they grow up. A lot to deal with on top of just finding a way to provide for the family. A lot to have on the mind. I do know that things always do seem to work out one way or another, though. Just takes some looking back after things have been done to see that it was the right decision. So since you’re still facing that next unknown, definitely make sure you at least take some time to pat yourself on the back (and hug your family) for fighting through and making it to this point. Again, congrats and best of luck on the next stage.
