four square margaritas
It may not officially be summer yet, but here in the Southeast it’s certainly close enough. And, “close enough” means it’s margarita time! Here is the simple recipe that we use to make our favorite summer cocktail:
Four Square Margarita Recipe:
- 1 12oz can frozen limeade mix
- 1 12 oz beer
- 12 oz tequila
- 12 oz water
Combine limeade, water and tequila in a pitcher and stir until the limeade has fully dissolved. Add the beer, stir a bit more and serve immediately over ice.
For frozen margaritas, combine limeade, beer and tequila in a blender, fill blender with ice and blend.
Tips: Add the limeade first and use the empty can to measure equal parts of the remaining ingredients. This makes things easier when you start making the third batch ;-) Use a smaller can for a smaller batch, a jumbo can(s) for parties. Adding the beer last keeps the mixture from getting too foamy while you stir. Lighter bodied beers work best. (Here I’m using a Mississippi regional micro-brew that is spiced lightly with orange peel and coriander.) Any cheap tequila works fine- save the Patrón for shots. You can substitute a lemon-lime soda for the water for a sweeter, foamier mix. Club soda makes it foamier w/o the extra sweetness. Add a shot of Amaretto and/or Cointreau for a kick. Experiment and come up with your own favorite combination of ingredients.
Enjoy!

Aunt Minis Honey Lemonade Recipe: 1/2 gallon warm water, 1/2 cup honey, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice. Just mix it all with your hands (their warmth will disolve the honey and sugar) and pour mixture into a gallon container filled 3/4 with ice. I like to use wild honey from the local food coop…it has a unique spicey flavor.
