I have the same separation issue with a different model, and on yet another pair, the sole isn't separating(yet) from the shoe, but after being out in rain there is noticeable white residue that leeches out from the sole/shoe interface. Ugh.

Hi there

I stumbled onto your blog because I was looking up comparisons between the FA 35 and the FA 31, and Google brought up your blog post that compared the two (plus the kit lens) in-depth.

That was a fantastic blog post by the way. I especially liked the picture that compared how the field of view between the two FA lenses, since that is something that is too often omitted in lens comparison tests.

Anyways, perusing your blog further led me to this post, and I must say, I agree that hair trimmers are indeed a wise investment!

I used to get my hair buzzed at the local barber shop for around $12 a pop every 1.5 months or so. Then a couple of years ago my old roommate gave me a set of hair trimmers, and since then I've been buzzing my own hair. Now I love it! I've nailed the technique down for getting it all in one go without fuss, including the back of my head, and it has indeed saved me a lot of money as well as time.

Revisiting as I left my FA31 in the back of a taxi... Looking to get another one, but the rumour mill is saying that Pentax is blowing out current stock to re-issue the 31 with Quick Shift and WR at the time of a FF announcement.

That would be a DSLR/lens combo worth lugging about!

" It is important to understand that even though a 20mm MFT lens may have an equiv FoV of a 40mm lens on 35mm, it still has the distortion characteristics of a 20mm lens on 35mm."

Very well pointed out.

Bearing that in mind, how are you finding the 45mm for portraits? Are noses too big?

I have an old 9 speed 105 rear dérailleur. The old 9 speed Deore shifters I found worked fine. Basically, Shimano 9 speed or 10 speed should be the same whether it's road or mountain :-)

I love Kleins and I love flat bar road bikes - great conversion. I agree that a flat bar works best in traffic. I also think that a 1x10 is a great setup for commuting.

Just wondering, what rear dérailleur are you using? Do Deore shifters work with a road rear dérailleur?

I can't think of any specific tips. It is a bugger for sure. Just make sure you have it in the right orientation and keep at it. I recall spending longer trying to get that damn sensor plugged in than I did servicing the rest of the brake system! This was the primary reason why I chose to disable the sensor indicator when the sensor came off. No way I was going through THAT again :-)
